What is Selah.jpg

Welcome to Selah

Selah comes from the Hebrew word used for the break between the psalms. It is said to mean “pause” or “stop and listen.” We invite you to pause and create the space in your life to focus on God.

Our Objectives

First, to help participants come to know God as love and then to invite them to experience this love as a way of being in the world. This freedom leads them to invite others on this journey.

Second, to attend to our mission through the support and nurturance of church leaders—both clergy and laity.

Selah offers a holistic perspective through spiritually focused education and training in the following areas of focus:

  1. Spiritual formation,

  2. Body wellness and spirituality and

  3. Instruction in the ancient church mothers and fathers.

A Word from Our CEO

Dear friends,

We are so pleased to have you here! The word “Selah” is Hebrew for the break between phrases in the psalms. It is said to mean “pause” or “stop and listen.” That is what we are about. Selah Center for Spiritual Formation invites you to pause and create space in your life to focus on God.

Selah has two objectives. First, we want to help you come to know God as love—not solely in an intellectual way, but deep in your being. Your identity becomes immersed in this understanding that God loves you without condition.  And our second objective is that through this understanding, you are freed to live out God’s love in our hurting world. We become a manifestation of God’s love.

Our primary offering is the Certificate in Spiritual Direction. This training prepares you to walk alongside others in their relationship with God. We partner with the Siburt Institute of Church Ministry housed within Abilene Christian University. If you are looking for a spiritual director, you can find a directory of trusted individuals who have completed our certification program.

Another way we seek to help you in your journey is through instructional materials in the Contemplative Christian disciplines. These written courses are available in e-book form.

A few of the topics are:

  • Silence and Solitude

  • Contemplative prayer

  • Simplicity

  • Transformation through Scripture

There is nothing that matches the freedom that comes with being “all in” as an instrument of the Kingdom. Our heart’s desire is to guide you into a deeper intimacy with the God of the universe and to help you share this love with others.

Grace and peace to you,
