Track Two: Advanced Track in Ignatian Spiritual Direction
PREREQUISITES:
Certificate in Spiritual Direction from an accepted program.
Completion of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius individually with a spiritual director.
Desire to direct others through the Spiritual Exercises
WHAT IS OFFERED:
Specialty Certificate in Ignatian Spiritual Direction, with an optional Practicum in Directing others through the Spiritual Exercises. Training focuses on Ignatian spirituality including: practicing Christian discernment, an overview of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, self-care and ethics in ministry, offering spiritual direction using the principles of Ignatian spirituality, and directing others through the Spiritual Exercises.
Participants should have regular spiritual practices including receiving monthly spiritual direction. Other requirements include directed readings and online listening resources with written summaries, one residential retreat with other participants and staff, and a final integrative paper. This program is limited to 6 participants.
The residency includes teaching on Ignatian spirituality and prayer, theology of the Spiritual Exercises, discernment, self-care of the director, and ethics in ministry. There will also be group and one-on-one spiritual direction sessions as well as a guided silent retreat.
Optional Practicum in Directing others through the Spiritual Exercises. Running September-May, participants will direct one person through the Spiritual Exercises which involves meeting with the directee weekly and attending monthly group supervision. See the short Practicum Reading List here. The Practicum also involves attending one 2-day concluding retreat near Nashville, TN, the weekend of May 21-23, 2021. Tuition for the practicum reading list is in addition to the Specialty Certificate Program cost.
WHAT IS REQUIRED:
Receive monthly spiritual direction.
Read from a bibliography that focuses on Ignatian spirituality and the ministry of spiritual direction. There is a Pre-residency Reading List on the Spiritual Exercises, discernment, and prayer.
For the Optional 9 Month Practicum, Read from a short bibliography that focuses on a version of the Spiritual Exercises and help for directing others.
Write a final reflective paper describing the manner in which Ignatian spirituality enhances/impacts you and your ministry of spiritual direction. This is a reflective exercise aimed at demonstrating the integration of the topics covered during the residency. Paper is due September 25, 2020.
Attend one 5-day intensive residency near Nashville, TN the week of May 24-28, 2022.
For the Optional 9 Month Practicum, Attend monthly group supervision while directing someone through the Spiritual Exercises (September-May). Attend one 2-day concluding retreat near Nashville, TN, the weekend of May 19-20, 2023.
Apply by March 3, 2022 for the 2022-2023 cohort.
To fulfill the application process, complete the following:

- Have three individuals send in recommendations (This step is not needed if a graduate of the Selah Spiritual Direction Program). Recommendation Form
Staff will review the materials and invitations will be sent out by May 15, 2020.
COST OF CERTIFICATE PROGRAM:
$1499 includes tuition, room and board during the residency. Participant covers the cost of travel and books. Payment is due before the residency. If you would like to pay it in increments, contact us at info@selahspiritual.com.
ADDITIONAL COST OF OPTIONAL 9 MONTH PRACTICUM:
$950 includes Practicum tuition, monthly supervision, easy to use formatted electronic version of Spiritual Exercises, room and board for concluding retreat. Participants cover cost of travel and books.
