One of the most misunderstood areas of the Christian faith is the relationship between our spirituality and our body. Many have dealt with the subject through simple avoidance. Others have attempted to step into the waters of this landmine-laden discussion only to find more division than unity amongst believers.
A case for the unity of the body and faith can be made as early as Genesis.
“Now let Us conceive a new creation—humanity—made in Our image, fashioned according to Our likeness. And let Us grant them authority over all the earth—the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, the domesticated animals and the small creeping creatures on the earth…so God did just that. He created humanity in His image, created them male and female.” ~Genesis 1:26,27
It is the slow dis-integration of what was originally planned and the individual dis-connection of the body that has caused an even greater disconnection within the body of Christ at large. Our individual wholeness is directly related to our wholeness as the entire body of Christ.
The journey back to embodied living is not a swift one. There are many things to unlearn. It’s much like a search for a missing puzzle piece. You know it exists but you have no idea where it is or where to even begin to look. Within each of us lies eternity and with that the desire to be whole. And though that is not obtained in its fullness on this side of Heaven, we are wired to search for it nonetheless.
You and I are dust and breath. Not just dust, sacred dust. Not just breath, but divine breath. Fashioned by God’s Spirit, breathing the life-imparting breath of the Highest One, in and out, all the days of our lives. Knit together with loving attention to detail, crafted with a particular purpose in mind, brought to life to live and move and have our being where it began, in Him.
This class will be a hands-on exploration of the embodied faith. A faith that is lived out not only in heart, mind, and soul, but also and especially, within the body. Weekly videos and daily assignments will guide you gently in understanding the concepts and practicality of an embodied faith. The last week of the course is a retreat combining all the elements of the preceding weeks. The retreat can be enjoyed daily for a week, or over a course of weekends or days. The possibilities are endless, the choice is yours. There are no required books for this class, but there will be a recommended book list to accommodate the course should you desire to dig even deeper into particular topics.
