Nan Smith

Nan Smith has been interested and a student of nutrition and healthy life style for over 25 years.  She was introduced to healthy eating by a friend who brought her healthy whole grain muffins and took her to a vegetarian restaurant called Laughing Man in her hometown of Nashville.  She also went to a 8 week healthy eating class where the fresh fruits and vegetables piled high on the teacher’s kitchen counter touched something in her soul that led her to give up her search for the perfect chocolate chip cookie and pursue whole food, whole grain, plant based nutrition.dougnan

She will share her journey with us about tips she has learned in her studies and workshops with nutritionist experts Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Esselstyn, Rip Esselstyn (Fire Engine 2 diet), George Malkmus from Hallelujah Acres, Dr. Neal Barnard and others as well as recipes she has incorporated into her diet and the diet of her family who now thank her for serving healthy meals and setting an example for them in working toward a healthy life style.  Nan regards stewardship of the body as a spiritual discipline and one which she like the rest of us battles each day, hopefully making small steps toward God’s call that whatsoever we eat or drink, or whatever we do, do all for the glory of God.  She realizes that living in a culture of abundance has its own challenges as does poverty.  The recipes she will share will be simple fare, easy to prepare.
