Nan’s Nuggets: “Is it worth it?”
Is it worth it to feel this way when I wake up? Was the cake, ice cream and French fries and cheeseburgers or cheese-laden pizza worth it? I do tire of creaking out of bed, following a night filled with many treks to the bathroom and the in the morning looking into the mirror and seeing a puffy face with bags and circles. I wonder, “Oh, why did I do it?”
I have learned that I don’t have to feel that way. A diet of whole grain plant based foods, free of preservatives, additives, and artificial colors (read the labels) leads to getting out of bed filled with vim, vigor, and vitality. The deception comes because I can eat badly all day long and feel fine and the food tastes delicious. But it is during the night that the food I eat is assimilated by the body and it is in the morning that I feel the effects of unhealthy eating.
It has been said that peace is the umpire of how we are doing.–peace of body, mind, and spirit. My body talks to me. Am I listening?
A smoothie meal morning
