Join Ben and Erica Berry as they reflect on the theology of the body and take a look at how a few historical figures have significantly shaped our thinking around body wellness and spirituality. The course will delve into the spirituality of the body with specific classes focused on:
- The Breath, something so essential to life and yet so easily taken for granted. What is this breath that God has breathed into us? Breath will be explored as a gateway to coming home to ourselves, to becoming aware of our bodies, and coming home to presence.
- Posture, a reflection on the importance of the spine, which will include suggestions for a few sitting and stretching positions and a number of prayer postures. Not only does our posture speak volumes about who we are and what we’ve been through, it’s also another simple practice in paying attention to our bodies.
- Gestures will reflect on the significance of simple gestures. It will look at how incorporating certain gestures into our daily lives can facilitate a state of sustained openness to God’s presence.
At the end of each class there will be daily assignments and one or two exercises for students to engage.
